West Newbury - Cable Startup
Hello,
The Town of West Newbury (http://TheToWN.tv) will be starting up our website and cable casting operations within the next 6-8 weeks. We are excited to be able to start offering local access (PEG) to our community. There is an upswelling of interest in expanding the coverage of important information in our small community. We are looking forward to the new Cable Facilities to help enhance this process.
We have just purchased our broadcast equipment for delivery in 6-8 weeks, and we have selected a number of other items to help support our goals. We plan on implementing.
Tight Rope Media Systems (http://www.trms.com)
- Carousel CG250
- CableCast SX2
We will be broadcasting on Verizon FiOS and Comcast
We will be using
Joomla CMS (http://www.joomla.org)
CiviCRM (http://www.civicrm.org)
Possibly WordPress (http://www.wordpress.org)
And we are actively evaluating live broadcast options, including http://www.boinx.com

Sounds very exciting. What are your plans to use CiviCRM? I don't have much experience with it but I would like to deploy it on my station site, within the year (http://www.medfield.tv)
We also actively use BoinxTV at our studio. We use it primarily for Sporting events that were shot with announcers and a single camera. It has been good, but it needs a good hearty machine.
We are looking at using CiviCRM to manage our user community and to manage volunteers and assignment to events. Here are a couple of specific plans.
1) We would like our viewers to sign up and provide information about which carriers and services they use. We have Verizon FiOS and Comcast.
2) We would like our viewers to indicate if they would be willing/able to volunteer, giving them multiple levels to select from.
3) We would like to use the mapping features in CiviCRM to help determine where our Verizon and Comcast users are located, are there any variations in different parts of town, does sparsity in one area for a provider indicate there is service problem in the area or is there no service available?
4) manage mailing lists
5) use events to schedule volunteers for recording events.
These are just a few.
We have a prototype of what our site might look like up at http://thetown.tv/demo . If you use the Create Account option, it will create an account on the site. I can then add you as an admin so you can see CiviCRM if you are interested. The Joomla integration creates the joomla account and the civicRM information in one pass.
We are really happy with our select of TRMS. I think we will be able to provide a easy to manage highly functional solution to our community with these components.
Are you going to ACM-NE?
I need to sign up.

Jim,
I would highly recommend you come to the conference in Burlington. The discounted room rate has been extended until May 8 but not only that, the content of the conference is going to be great, too.
I would like to think there are many folks like you that bring a new perspective and fresh approach to running a community media organization. There isn't one complete recipe for how all these new media tools will be integrated but at least through a collaborative spirit and openness we are able to support each other.
Hello,
I plan on coming up. I need to get my registration in soon. I'm looking forward to the event.
